Beat Battle

Last night in the depths of the skungy Melbourne CBD I witnessed my first ever beat battle. Producers and beat makers bring in a cd with some of their beats, and compete against others to win the hearts of the judges and or the audience.
When I say skungy I don't really mean it, the place was more bohemian and back ally than skungy. I digress.

What I found compelling about it was how competitive it was, and clear it was that one beat was better than the other. It made me reflect on my own work, and how I see it against others. It made me wish there were something like this for animators. I can see it now... A bunch of scarf clad, skinny malnourished guys and girls gathered around a projector screen in a darkened ex factory, in silence, watching one animators walk cycle, then the next. And applauding according to who's they thought was better. Then the two animators join emaciated hands in consolation or congratulation and the next theme is up. Acting. Or something.

I may have a business idea here, but probably not. Most animators are either too busy (you know, animating) or not in the mood to go out late on a Saturday night, just to hang out with other people.

Today I was planning on taking the day off, play some video games, maybe make a beat, clean the house. But I've turned my computer on and come to a meeting invitation, adding files to two dropboxes, and the reminder that I'll probably just get bored and end up working today anyway.

Letsago.
